Skin Types
Each and every one of us has a skin type that is peculiar only to ourselves.
As our skin is constantly exposed to changing conditions, it is susceptible to attack from external and internal elements and needs constant care. A complete understanding of skin types is fundamental in ensuring that your skin will outlast the damaging effects of our environment.
The six main skin types and their characteristics:
Normal Skin
This is perfectly balanced in oil and water and is:
- Evenly textured and smooth to touch
- Evenly toned in colour
- Blemish free
- Moist to touch
- Has normal pore sizes
- Even in temperature
- Has good elasticity
Dry Skin
This is typically lacking in oil and moisture and is
- Flaky in patches
- Thin and delicate
- Pale in colour
- Broken capillaries are often visible
- tight with small pores
- Ages quickly
- Sensitive to changes in the environment
- Fine lines and wrinkles are often visible
- Poor elasticity
Oily Skin
Usually has an all over shine and is
- Sticky to touch
- Thick in texture
- Susceptible to breakout, infection and inflammation
- Large open pores
- Sallow in colour
- Ages slowly
- Visible congestion
- Susceptible to pimples, blackheads and whiteheads
- Has over active oil glands
Combination Skin
This is signified by the presence of two different skin types and can have
- Oily T- Zone
- Normal to dry cheek area
- Uneven texture
- Susceptible to pimples, blackheads and congestion
- Uneven tone
- Open pores on T-Zone
- May appear flaky and dehydrated
Mature Skin
This is usually lacking in oil and has
- Fine lines and deep wrinkles present
- Sagging contours
- Poor elasticity
- Age spots present
- Possible broken capillaries
- Flakiness and tightness
- Pale in colour
Acne Skin
This is often characterized by an obviously oily shine and has
- Thick texture
- Papules and pustules present
- Susceptible to blackheads and congestion
- Some inflammation present
- Sallow colour
- Large open pores
